Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 16, 2026

Back Nine Living ("Back Nine Living", "we", "us" or "our") runs the website at https://www.backnineliving.com/ and a newsletter sent through Squarespace's built-in email tool. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit the site or sign up for the newsletter, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We have kept it in plain language on purpose. If anything here is unclear, please reach out using the contact details at the end.

By using the site, you agree to the practices described here.

Who we are and how to reach us

Back Nine Living is a personal golf and lifestyle blog based in Ontario, Canada. For any question about your privacy or the information we hold, email us at [dave at backnineliving dot com].

The information we collect

You do not have to give us any personal information to read the site. Some information is collected automatically, and some you choose to give us.

Information you give us:

  • Your email address, and any name you enter, when you subscribe to the newsletter.

  • Anything you send us directly, for example when you fill in a contact form, leave a comment, or email us.

Information collected automatically:

  • Our website runs on Squarespace. Squarespace sets cookies and collects standard technical information such as your device type, browser, rough location based on your IP address, the pages you view, and how you reached the site. Squarespace uses this to keep the site working and to give us basic visitor numbers. You can read how Squarespace handles this in its own privacy policy.

  • We may add a website analytics tool later to see which articles readers enjoy. If we do, we will update this policy to name it and describe the cookies it uses.

  • Affiliate links on the site (see our Affiliate Disclosure) rely on cookies set by CJ Affiliate and the retailers we link to. These cookies record that a visit or sale came from Back Nine Living, so any commission is credited correctly. They do not tell us who you are.

Cookies and how to control them

Cookies are small text files a website stores on your device. We and our providers use them to run the site, remember your choices, produce visitor numbers, and track affiliate referrals as described above.

You are in control. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies through their settings, and you can usually switch off third party or advertising cookies on their own. If our site shows you a cookie choice banner, you can set your preferences there. Blocking some cookies may change how parts of the site work.

How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Send you the newsletter you asked for and, now and then, share content, tips, and offers we think you will like.

  • Reply to your messages and comments.

  • Understand which articles are popular, so we can write more of what you want to read.

  • Credit affiliate referrals correctly, and keep the site running properly and securely.

We do not sell your personal information.

The newsletter and your consent

When you subscribe, you are asking us to email you, and that is the consent we rely on under Canada's anti spam law (CASL). Every newsletter has an unsubscribe link, and you can leave the list at any time with one click. Our newsletter is sent using Squarespace's built-in email tool, and Squarespace stores subscriber information for us. You can read how Squarespace handles data in its own privacy policy.

Who we share information with

We do not sell your information, and we share it only with the providers that help us run Back Nine Living:

  • Squarespace, which hosts the website and sends the newsletter.

  • CJ Affiliate and the retailers behind our affiliate links, which use cookies to track referrals and commissions.

Each of these companies has its own privacy policy, and we suggest you read them. We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights.

Where your information is stored

Our providers, including Squarespace and CJ Affiliate, are based in the United States and may store and process information on servers outside Canada. Privacy laws in other countries may differ from those in Canada.

How long we keep it

We keep your newsletter details for as long as you stay subscribed. If you unsubscribe or ask us to delete your information, we remove it, apart from anything we must keep for legal or record keeping reasons. Website numbers are kept in line with our providers' standard retention periods.

Your rights and choices

You can:

  • Unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the link in any issue.

  • Ask what personal information we hold about you.

  • Ask us to correct or delete your personal information.

  • Adjust or block cookies through your browser.

To make any of these requests, email us at [your contact email]. We will reply within a reasonable time, as Canada's privacy law (PIPEDA) requires. If you are reading from outside Canada, similar rights may apply to you under your local law, and we will do our best to honour them.

Children

Back Nine Living is written for adult golfers, and the site is not meant for children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you think a child has given us their information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Keeping your information safe

We and our providers take reasonable steps to protect your information. No website or internet service can promise perfect security, but we work to keep your details safe and to use trusted providers.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time, for example if we add a new tool or feature. When we do, we will change the date at the top. Please check back now and then, so you know how we handle your information.
